A few years back, I made a documentary that revolved around my mother. More specifically, the fact that it had been twenty-plus years since she had returned to her birth nation of Mexico. She came to the U.S. as an illegal immigrant and built a successful life, but I know she missed her home. All she wanted was to return, get some dirt, and be buried with it here in the states. It was just dirt. The idea of borders is fascinating to me - invisible lines that, I think, dictate the way you will live your life. It's just dirt - and yet so much more.
