Kodak Easyshare MD41 Review
Kodak Easyshare MD41 is a fashionable and slim compact camera. It is another affordable and easy to use digital camera from KODAK, one of the world's trusted brands in photography.
When you purchase this camera, the box would include the camera, KODAL Li-Ion Rechargeable Digital Camera battery (KLIC-7001), USB AC adapter for charging, wrist strap, USB Cable, and user guide with Kodak Easyshare software. You will be ready to shoot right out of the box.
The MD41 has the capability to give you outstanding prints with its 12.2 megapixels resolution. This means that you can have spectacular pictures up to 30 X 40 inches, without losing important details. More megapixels would allow you to enlarge or crop without affecting image quality. The 3X optical zoom lens with a 35 mm equivalent of 35-105 mm will get you close to your subject, without compromising quality.
The camera's dimensions are 58.5 X 95.5 X 19.2 millimeters and it weighs 115 grams. This is very slim and light; perfect to bring anywhere and small enough to fit into your shirt or jean pocket. You can also use the free wrist strap and it will be very convenient to use this in any spontaneous situations.
Kodak prides itself in making the most user-friendly cameras in the market today. This camera does not deviate from that course. The buttons and controls of the MD41 are situated at the top and the back of the camera. Each button is properly marked and easy to figure out. On top, you will see the mode dial and the shutter, power, and flash buttons. At the back are the buttons for menu, delete, review, info, share, 5- way controller, and zoom. The camera has a 2.7-inch TFT Active matrix LCD and it has no viewfinder.
A Kodak Li-Ion rechargeable battery powers the MD41. The KLIC-7001 battery has a CIPA battery life rating of 250-280 shots. You do not need to remove the battery from the camera to charge it because you will be provided a USB AC adapter.
In the mode dial, you can choose between 7 options: Smart Capture, Program, Blur Reduction, Sport, Panorama, Scene, and video.
Smart Capture is best for general picture taking. If you like shooting and not worrying about the technical aspects of photography this mode is right for you. It is hassle-free and the camera will analyze the scene and situation, and intelligently adjust its settings. Kodak's Smart capture includes face detection, motion detection, auto macro detection, expanded dynamic range, intelligent ISO, and Perfect Touch. You can also customize picture size and aspect ratio in this mode by just pressing the menu button. You can pick from among 3:2, 16:9, or 4:3 formats.
Program mode works for people who want access to manual settings, like ISO, metering, AF control, and white balance. Blur reduction mode reduces fuzziness caused by camera shake or movement by the subject. Sports mode is for taking action pictures. The Kodak Easyshare MD41 has a panorama mode that will allow you to stitch up to 3 photos to create awe-inspiring landscape images.
In the SCN mode you can pick either Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Flower, Sunset, Backlight, Candle Light, Children, Manner/Museum, Text, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, Self-Portrait, Night-portrait, Night Landscape, Panning Shot, or High ISO modes. These modes are perfect for different situations. For example, high ISO is suitable for capturing images of people indoors in low-light scenes and Manner/Museum is for quiet occasions, like a lecture or wedding, where flash use is not advisable. Use the right scene in the right situation and you will get wonderful pictures for every click you make.
To capture videos, all you have to do set the dial to video mode, then press the shutter button completely down. Just press the shutter button again when you are done. It records Quicktime videos at 30 frames per second. The MD41 allows you to edit your videos. You can trim it, make a picture from it, or create a 9-up video action print.
The camera has advanced picture-taking options that will help you shoot better images. One of these options is face detect capture, which will give focus priority to faces. ISO sensitivity can also be set from 80 to 1000. You can also play with its multiple Color modes to give your photos a unique feel. There are so many other customizable options for this camera that will help beginners understand the deeper aspects of photography.
The fun does not stop in just taking pictures with this camera. The Kodak Easyshare MD41 allows you to edit and enhance the photos that you have taken. You can crop photos and make slideshows. You can text tag images. Aside from this, you may apply Kodak Perfect Touch Technology to the images to turn them into brighter and better pictures. Perfect Touch will enhance the details and clear up shadows in your images and it is automatically applied to all shots taken in the Smart Capture mode.
The C142 has an internal memory of 32 MB, with 24 MB allocated for photos. This internal memory is too small; so, it is advisable to use the SD card slot and buy SD or SDHC cards for additional memory.
Just like the other cameras in the Easyshare family, the Kodak Easyshare has a dedicated Share button that allows fast and easy upload of images and videos to websites like FACEBOOK, Youtube, FLICKR, KODAK gallery sites, and even email.
