Washington Monument. Call it cynicism, but whenever I travel somewhere popular, I'm almost always underwhelmed by attractions/landmarks that look much better on TV or in photos. The oomph isn't quite there. However, this was the opposite. Along with the Lincoln Memorial, I was totally in awe and was surprised at how any visual medium hadn't captured the immensity and power of these sights. Highly recommended - especially at night.
I kicked myself for not bringing an SLR here (shot an a phone). However, I wanted to experience the scene without being encumbered by a camera. I needed to shoot anyway - it's like a drug, this photography. Washington, D.C.
P.S. Make sure to check out Phillip Toledano's Days with My Father photo journal. Absolutely heartbreaking, touching, emotional, and has some nice photography to boot (see/read every entry).
